Blizzard to get DRM protection for ‘Starcraft 2′
This wasn’t the ‘Blizzard’ way of doing things. But looks like the company is now in for a major policy shift. Blizzard never worried about piracy issues and their way to counter it was simple: Kill the CD-keys and ban players. But now it is being reported that Digital Rights Management(DRM) will be used starting with ‘Starcraft 2′.

This latest development came to light in a recent interview with Incgamers. Part of the interview were lead designer Dustin Browder, VP of creative development Chris Metzen and VP of game design Rob Pardo. Pardo while commenting on the issue said “historically it has not been a big deal for blizzard. But whatever few examples, we can shut down those services.”
But before all the users start getting berserk and complaining about these new developments, here is the catch: the form of DRM protection that will be used will be very low. To make it clearer, here is how it works: in order to install the game users will need to connect once. They will also have to sign up for a Battle.net account during the installation process.

So far these measures seem most doable and none of the users look likely to complain about this kind of DRM compliance. This is the first time that Blizzard is using such kind of measures, is it possible that in future these might become more stringent? Let us also not forget Activision’s love for DRM. Will they also influence Blizzard to follow suit?
